Travel Resources

We’ve been travelling together as a family for almost 20 years, spanning six continents and over 30 countries. Use our tried-and-tested favourite travel resources to ensure your next family adventure meets your dreams!

How to Find Cheap Flights

Skyscanner – Skyscanner is our go-to for finding cheap flights. It is easy to customise your search to see when it is cheapest to travel to countries and even has ‘explore everywhere’ and ‘multi-city’ search options.

Google Flights – Compare flights from different carriers to find the best deal.

Best Accommodation Resources

Hotels.com – This is our preferred booking platform, and it has a great loyalty scheme with free nights, a good choice of accommodation and great prices. It’s also really easy to use.

Booking.com – Every country we’ve ever been to has hotels listed on booking.com, and it is our go-to booking site for hotel accommodation when we can’t find what we want on hotels.com. It also has a great loyalty scheme that gives you cash credits instead of free nights, which can be used against transport and accommodation.

Trusted Housesitters – Gain a free place to stay in exchange for watering plants and feeding dogs anywhere in the world.

Vrbo – We prefer Vrbo to Airbnb. They have lower service fees and offer more homely accommodation options without the high costs.

Expedia – Browse to find the best hotels for your family in destinations worldwide.

Transport Resources

Discover Cars – Compare the prices for various vehicle suppliers with Discover Cars to ensure you get the cheapest rate for your family around the world.

Trainline – Search train tickets across the UK and Europe.

Best Tours for Families

Viator – Planning day tours before you travel allows you to make the most of your time with less stress. Viator includes ratings on tours worldwide to help you choose.

TripAdvisor – Browse very honest opinions and book tours, restaurants, hotels, and things to do in destinations worldwide

Get Your Guide – Get Your Guide is a great platform for booking local tours anywhere in destinations across the world.

G Adventures – For a more organized family adventure tour package browse G Adventures many destinations to suit your preference.

Family Rucksacks

Osprey is our travel rucksack of choice. They are durable and well-designed for trekking and travelling. We used these bags for our Gap Year and continue to use them for travel.

Osprey Farpoint Trek 75 litre or 55 litre – This bag is suitable for men and teenagers. It has an adjustable fit and easy access to the kit, with a front-opening main compartment.

Osprey Faireview Trek 70 litre or 40 litre – This rucksack has an adjustable airflow back and is suitable for women travelling. Its front-opening main compartment and detachable day pack (70l) make it a perfect rucksack.

Osprey Ace 38 litre – Kids trekking and travel top-loading rucksack with adjustable back. Also available in 50l/75l for older children. We struggled to find a suitable bag that fit well with a durable design but this worked great.

Osprey Hikelite 26 litre – Our go to day bag for trekking and travelling with built-in rain cover.

Family Packing Essentials

Portable Power Bank – This is vital for any traveller to keep batteries charged, especially when travelling with kids and teens. We particularly liked this one for its petite size.

Packing Cubes – Organisation is key with kids. To make travelling less stressful, give each family member a colour-coded compression pack for their clothes storage.

Tripod – Finding the perfect lightweight tripod to take selfies and posed shots while travelling isn’t easy, but we highly recommend this one for its flexible legs that can be easily shaped.

International Adapter – This lightweight, universal adapter charges up to 6 family devices at a time. It can be used in 224 countries with different configurations to meet regional plug requirements and can charge

Kindle – With access to thousands of e-books our kids do not travel without their e-readers.

Language Courses

Babbel – Looking to learn a few phrases or a whole language. Babbel is a user-friendly, interactive, appealing app for the whole family.

Photography

Mixbook—If you have thousands of digital travel photos stored from family trips, Mixbook has great options for displaying them. With user-friendly templates, you can easily create photo books, gifts, and wall art.
